We would like to hear about any games/pastimes undertaken by community members in years gone by.We are really interested in finding out as much as possible about Castlefinn Pipe Band, St. Mary's Flute Band / A.O.H Band & Donaghmore Band from circa 1938!!! Any information and especially photos would be greatly appreciated. We have no photos of Donaghmore Band, names for Band members or indeed a name for the Band so if anyone has any information please feel free to contact any of the group at any time.
Update; Someone has informed us that the band in Donaghmore were called "St. Patrick's"! Can anyone confirm this??

Community spirit at it,s best
I have always been aware that Donaghmore Band had used the equipment belonging to St. Mary's Flute Band but nobody could ever explain why....until now....A nice gentleman has relayed the events which led to the loan of the equipment which go like this...A few "smart Boys" broke into the hall at Donaghmore where the Band's equipment was stored and damaged it, just before the twelfth of July (when they had intended marching). Some of the band approached St. Mary's Band for a loan of their equipment which they were happily given. There was one problem with the equipment, A.O.H. was, and still is, written up the side of the large drum. As this wouldn't do while marching on "the twelfth" in Northern Ireland, the members decided to cover the side of the drum with paper which did the trick ..................until................ that is ..mid way through proceedings it began to "RAIN"!!!! When the paper began to discintegrate the Band beat a hasty retreat back to Castlefinn. The Band disembarked the bus in Castlefinn where the people lined the streets and cheered as they marched home to Donaghmore. It was a wonderful end to a wonderful day!!
Can anybody shed any light on the names of members that Donaghmore Band or even produce a photograph??? All photographs will be scanned and returned.
