Castlefinn & District History project is made up of a group of like minded individuals interested in preserving our community's heritage through the medium of photography for future generations.
Our ExhibitionsWe have had a few successful photographic exhibitions in the past few months as you can see from the photos above and intend exhibiting again intermittently through the year. All of our photographs have been kindly donated by residents both past and present of castlefinn. The response from the community has been unbelievable and people continue to provide photos and interesting sometimes humorous stories. Our ultimate goal is to compile a book so as to preserve the historical stories of people and places within the community that have long since gone. So keep bringing us your beautiful old photos!!!! All originals are copied and returned immediately and are only posted on this website after receiving the owners permission.
We could not accomplish our goal without the never ending support from the people of Castlefinn and surrounding areas for which we will be eternally grateful. Anyone who wishes to donate some of their family's precious memories to aid in the progression of groups goal please feel free to contact us or any member of the group(Listed below).
The Launch of our WebsiteWe recently launched our website which was a great success as the photo's above show. So far the response to our website has been very positive. Thanks to everyone for all your kind words and information about our photographs.
A little bird has told us over the weekend that the pupils of St. Safans N.S, Doneyloop, have been visiting our website on a regular basis. We hope you are all enjoying our work and now that our book is finished we will be updating new photographs and you never know we might just have a little bit of research for yous to help us with in the very near future!!

We are interested to hear from anyone who has either been "HIRED OUT" or who's parents/grandparents have been "HIRED OUT" at the old hiring fairs of days long past. At present we are aware of only one or two local people who have experienced this but would love to hear any stories you may have. Contact any of the club members listed below. We would love to hear from you. Our next topic of interest is "LINT DAMS" and the whole process in general of getting the lint ready for the factories. Anyone with any stories or some lovely photographs drop us a line!!
Some Photographs of our very successful exhibition at the North West Garden Show 2014Apologies to all as there has not been much change to the website lately. Between exhibitions, Holidays, work on the latest book and family life in general our poor website has been neglected. Something we wish to rectify in the coming weeks and months. Our work is still continuing behind the scenes never fear. Any and ALL photograph which were ordered at the North West Garden Show will be printed and posted this week all going to plan. Apologies for the delay. We are currently in the process of compiling the next in the series of our books and are interested in any old photographs/stories which you may have regarding any area of local life in the town and surrounding areas many moons ago. We have been recently asked about the history of Orange-ism and the local Orange Lodge in the area which sad to say we know very little about. So if anyone has anything or knows anything about the History of the order in the town drop us a line. Similarly we are interested in any information on areas such as the Market Yard, in the diamond, (Where Gallagher,s Butchers is now), Badminton in the area, the first club formed etc., and of course Photographs of it would be unreal. We will be covering many different areas in the book so feel free to give us your input on any topic, we will be delighted to hear from you. Photographs of our book launch
